UK Author Paul Downey Signing This Saturday!

UK author Paul Downey, the madman behind This City is Going to Hell: The Making of Maniac Cop, will be signing copies of his 2026 book this upcoming Saturday in Alfreton, Derbyshire. He's part of an event called TAPE WRECK, which is being held by the 80s Video Shop. Full details are beneath the flyer below!

Our next event is THIS SATURDAY as we bring you TAPE WRECK - A Day to Wreck & Rewind. Filling the void left by TAPESTOCK, which we've hosted for the past couple of years, we couldn't leave the 2026 Calendar empty for VHS Tapeheads to meet up and grab some Video Bargains. We'll be open from 12 noon until the last person leaves. We're emptying out the store cupboard and planning on having every tape in the shop for sale! Here's some of the other cool stuff we have planned.... (1) We'll be joined by Andrew Barker - UK screenwriter, film director and author of DEAD LEAVES. (2) We'll be having a screening of DEAD ON DISTRIBUTION by local filmmaker Alasdair Gretton. (3) We'll be joined by Paul Downey author of This City is Going to Hell: The Making of Maniac Cop. Drawing on extensive research and exclusive interviews, Downey delivers the most comprehensive chronicle of the trilogy ever assembled. (4) Screening of 'Berk VS the Evil Dead'. Made to celebrate the 40th year anniversary of the classic kids show TRAP DOOR by the YouTube channel Eye Made This! A convergence of two great pieces of film making by Ollie Jones. (5) Plus, we'll be doing another POSTER AUCTION with some classic Video Shop Posters up for grabs and lots of other fun 80s Video Shop Memorabilia on offer. Admission is FREE
